The Vibrant Parades and Wild Floats of the Netherlands

Unless we’re talking about the Rio’s Carnival (NSFW), nothing else is really news-worthy when it comes to parades although the Netherlands have some pretty awesome local ones. According to Tom Janssen, his country has a long tradition of constructing wild and vibrant parade floats with some small enough to pass through local towns to grander ones shown to an audience well into the tens of thousands. The Dutch photographer captures the floating and spectacular artworks in the series “Parade” to pay homage to his people’s impressive perseverance and adds that the humorous and colorful floats are a way for them to let loose creatively: ‘Our nature of constructing things, a little bit about us showing off what we are capable of (but in a nice, polite, Dutch way), a little bit about escaping our overly organised society.’
