While These Veterans May Have Lost Their Limbs, They Didn’t Lose Their Confidence (NSFW)

Wars are never kind. If those don’t take away lives, they take away limbs. American veterans who lost the latter are the stars of Michael Stokes‘ series of calendar-style images. These photos will appear in the book “Always Loyal,” which will paint these soldiers in an empowering light, instead of one that’s gloomy and depressing. It all started with marine veteran Alex Minsky, who lost his leg to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Despite that, he wasn’t deterred and wanted to be a part of this project. Afterwards, other proud amputees wanted their pictures taken as well. Despite the severed body parts, the veterans were made to look sexy, exuding pride and confidence. “These guys have come to me very healed and ready to take the world on. I’m not giving them back their confidence. They already have it,” said Stokes.
