80s Pop Culture Characters in Some Serious Poses

Brett Kern injects a bit of seriousness into some of our favorite 80s characters from Alf to Slimer by posing them in some uncharacteristic stances. The ceramic artist and college professor combines beloved childhood characters he grew up watching with his favorite art period in history for a mashup unlike any other. According to him, “I admire them because the sculptors of the time moved away from the romanticized god-like figures of the Classical Greek Period and started to make sculptures of everyday people, in sometimes inglorious situations, warts and all.” Depicting a Ninja Turtle as a soldier near his life’s end in The Dying Gaul and a drunken E.T. as The Barberini Faun, the Hellenistic series is a quick tour on art history and pop culture alike.
