A Barn Goes Incognito in the Middle of a Park

A barn covered in mylar goes incognito in the middle of a park in Long Island. Conceived for the Socrates Sculpture Park’s annual Folly Competition, Brooklyn-based architectural firm STPMJ received a Notable Entry for the barn’s one-of-a-kind design.  The competition asked designers to create a 21st century architectural ‘folly’ to be installed in the park in which the main goal was to create a structure that is both modern and cool. The reflective film enveloping the parallelogram unit creates the optical illusion that it’s not there at all as it reflects its surroundings amazingly well. The only part of the barn not covered in mylar are the nooks that lets one peer right through and which we surmise will be the only saving grace for some birds not to fly into it.
