A Passive Message Conveyed Using Ordinary Objects

Creative director Anna Burns and photographer Michael Bodiam construct the most symbolic image of warfare and strife using menial items for the series, “Silent But Violent.” Using objects far from the spectrum war lies in, Burns used flowers and balloons among other items to form the dreaded image of a mushroom cloud. The sculpted mushroom clouds sitting silently indoors convey a poignant message of how desensitized we are as a society to the ongoing warfare that plagues the media everyday. According to them, “modern warfare is clearly no joke but rampant self-perpetuating thirst for gore and mass-destruction still runs rife among the mass media and begs plenty of questions about our appetite for the mystery and mayhem of modern combat.”
