An Orchestra of Knives Play the Bee Gees’ ‘Stayin Alive’

Looking more like something out of a mad scientist’s lab than an orchestra, Neil Mendoza creates an ensemble of unlikely instruments to play a robotic rendition of the Bee Gees’ 1970’s hit song “Stayin’ Alive.” Made up of 16 knives and one meat cleaver, The Electric Knife Orchestra performs the catchy tune with amazing mechanical precision both technically and melodically with the addition of a tiny triangle and electrical currents. The LA-based Britist artist used Arduino, firmware that lets users create interactive objects based on computer code, to summon the knives to life for a throwback of the polyester days.
