Check Out These Rare Photos of California’s Skateboarding Scene from the ’70s

For avid skaters, these photos are absolute gems. These were taken from Hugh Holland‘s terrific photo album, “Locals Only: California Skateboarding 1975-1978.” The period that the book covers is considered by some as the skateboarding culture’s golden age, as this was when the sport really started to take off and seep into America’s identity. Trivia: the drought that hit California in the 70s was actually partly responsible for skateboarding’s popularity, as it dried up pools and drainages that became the perfect terrain to skate on. Something good came out from that unfortunate situation. You may purchase Holland’s amazing photo book on Amazon.
