Women Swoon Over Handsome Gorilla at Japanese Zoo

We don’t know whether to stash this under the ridiculous news of the day or to openly admit that we too think that Shabani is one handsome dude, er, ape. The Western Lowland Primate has been a resident of Japan’s Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens since 2007 but has only captured the hearts of Japanese women just recently. The zoo has reportedly seen a rise of female visitors this year and numerous Instagram photos of the silverback along with affectionate names have been hitting the social media circuit lately. So is it his chiseled features, his piercing eyes or his James Dean-esque stance that women are going gaga over? Apparently, it’s all in the stare: “He often rests his chin on his hands and looks intently at you,” zoo spokesman Takayuki Ishikawa told Agence France-Presse.
