Artist Turns Test Tubes Into Little Worlds

One of life’s greatest mysteries (at least to us) is how those tiny ships manage to get inside bottles and Rosa de Jong adds another head-scratcher to that list with the ongoing project ‘Micro Matter.’ The Amsterdam-based designer and art director hand-makes each urban landscape and architecture using natural and model-making materials before painstakingly placing them inside the narrow confines of a test tube. The gravity-defying sculptures look like scenes straight out of a quaint, yet surreal, fairy tale.
