VHS Ribbons Bring Dark Monolithic Beings to Life

Philip Ob Rey summons nightmarish characters dressed in yards of VHS ribbons in the conceptual series ‘Humantropy.’ The project symbolizes Ob Rey’s apocalyptic vision of forgotten beasts emerging after humanity has long been wiped out. Upcycling ancient technology, the Icelandic artist creates dark, ominous, and downright creepy personas draped in expertly devised flowing garbs made of VHS tapes that delivers just the right creepiness to each monolithic being. Set in a desolate stretch of Iceland, the rippling black strands resemble tattered fibers adding a bone-chilling effect to the grim images.
