25 Amazing Photographs from the 2014 Smithsonian Photo Contest

Smithsonian has just announced the 60 finalists of their annual photography contest. Ten photographs from six categories were selected from 50,000 submissions by photographers from 132 countries all over the world. The six categories are: The Natural World, Travel, People, Americana, Altered Images and the newly minted Mobile category. The winners for the Readers Choice, Grand Prize, and six category winners will be announced on May 15th but in the meanwhile, the public has until May 6 to cast their vote for who should take home the Readers Choice award. The 12th annual photo contest starts on the same day that the winners are announced and should make for another round of heartfelt, striking, and amazing pictures by some talented photographers around the world.
