A Pencil That Wants to be a Plant

The mundane pencil becomes a sustainable vessel for a full blown herb garden with Sprout. The Kickstarter-funded company got its roots from a group of MIT students who were given the project of creating a product for the eco-friendly office of the future. The idea for Sprout was born and the basis is quite simple: Instead of throwing away the very last inch of a pencil, stick the stub into a pot of soil, water it a few times, and watch its magic happen in approximately one week. The pencils do not have built-in erasers and instead comes with a capsule tip containing 3 seeds of any of 11 different herbs such as basil, mint, and dill. A bonus comes in the form of the actual stub serving as herb markers.
