Abandoned Ruins of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympic City
What once stood as a majestic compound for the 1984 Winter Olympiads is now a ghost of what it used to be. Ranking as the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare, the Siege of Sarajevo brought the complex down. A large number of Sarajevan casulaties were buried in makeshift cemeteries throughout the surrounding areas including the Olympics stadium. Surrounded by overgrown shrubbery and defaced walls, the haunting images give a glimpse of the effects of war. (Above: Judges Stand at the 1984 Olympic Ski Jump)
