And This is How You Paint With Light

Peter Medlicott paints an abstract picture discernible only through the help of his camera with a technique he calls ‘light bombing.’ Part painting, part graffiti, and largely photography, the UK-based artist, who goes by the moniker ‘Sola,’ relies on the dark of the night to bring his art to life. Using a meter-long light bar, he paints an invisible pattern in front of the camera where the speed of his movements determine the intensity and texture of the resulting light sculpture. By setting his camera’s exposure to 30 seconds, he is able to capture the mesmerizing display in a matter of minutes and just like that, he is in and out leaving no indelible traces behind. Below are some images from his Light Up Dubai project where a collaboration with local artist turned up some amazing images against the Dubai skyline as well as his latest works.
