Annual Art Exhibit in France Features Soaring Chairs

As part of ‘le voyage à nantes,‘ an annual exhibition featuring temporary and permanent art pieces throughout the city of Nantes, France, Baptiste Debombourg creates ‘Stellar,’ an homage to the ever present outdoor cafes and restaurants in Place du Bouffay. The imposing art installation uses chairs to represent people and the gravity-defying, snaking structure to represent the contradiction of people anchored to the ground by the chairs. The massive rollercoaster-like structure was patterned after Robert Delaunay’s aerial piece ‘Palais de l’Air’ during the Paris World’s Fair in 1937 which itself was created to serve as a reminder to man that he is governed by the environment and its laws.
