Architect Built a Circular Bridge so Drivers Can Enjoy the Awesome View

An innovative idea in bridge design is forcing drivers to slow down and smell the roses. Surrounded by a 360 degree view of the water in the southern coast of Uruguay, the round bridge stretches across the waters of Laguna Garzón between the cities of Rocha and Maldonado. New York-based Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly took 12 months to complete the whose design was intended to force drivers to slow down so they could take in the grandeur of the amazing scenery surrounding them. According to him, “The concept of the Puente Laguna Garzon was to transform a traditional vehicular crossing into an event that reduces the speed of the cars, to provide an opportunity to enjoy panoramic views to an amazing landscape, and at the same time create a pedestrian place in the centre.”
