Bench Sculptures Highlight Literacy in London
To celebrate London’s literary heritage, Books About Town placed 50 unique book sculptures painted by local artists in different locations around the city. Each bench is shaped like an open book and reveals a painted depiction of the story or characters from classic books linked to London such as Peter Pan, Great Expectations, and Mary Poppins. The sculptures are not only beautiful to look at but are also functional to sit on. The project’s website features a map of where each one is located, a synopsis on each literature, and a background on the artist behind each painting. All 50 benches will be auctioned off in October and 100% of the proceeds will go to the National Literacy Trust.
