Bubble Beards Aren’t Just for Bubble Baths
The recent trend of showing one’s masculinity through the size and shape of one’s facial hair has inspired countless beard competitions throughout the world but for Mindo Cikanavicius, bubbles are much more fun than having to grow one. For ‘Bubbleissimo,’ the New York-based photographer captures men in all their bubble-beard glory sporting a bevy of styles from the handlebar to good ol’ fu manchu. According to Cikanavicius, his inspiration to use bubbles were drawn from the similarities between the recent craze and the fleeting nature of the sudsy stuff: “I chose bubbles because they’re temporary, like a trend, they pop when they reach their end. Bubbles are fragile, like us men can be fragile — whether we’re bearded or not … Soap bubbles are also a childish substance. When a little boy is wanting to look grown-up, he plays with a soap beard in the bath to reflect the subconscious transition from boyhood to manhood.”
