Building From the 80s Gets a Modern Makeover

Sticking out like a sore thumb (in the best possible way) amid a sea of dull buildings in Seoul, South Korea, DaeWha Kang Design revives a building constructed in the 1980’s to reflect today’s modern style. The London-based design studio transformed the aging structure into a professional, hip space by giving it a much needed facelift from top to bottom for public relations firm Communique. Converting the low garage into a welcoming cafe fitted with stainless steel panels provides a precursor to what lies inside while the exterior facade displays a grid-like pattern further accentuating contemporary design. Perhaps the best part of the overhaul is the conversion of the dilapidated rooftop into a full-blown courtyard complete with a wooden deck, making it the best place to hang out after hours.
