Canstruction: Helping Feed the Hungry of NYC Year In and Year Out
Every year since its 1992 debut, Canstruction has been drawing attention to the plight of the hungry by showcasing sculptures made of canned goods by New York City’s top architecture and engineering design firms. The 30 teams behind the grand displays took months to plan and design their sculptures while setup was restricted to one night. Using over 100,000 cans of food, sculptures of Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Bugs Bunny, and Batman are among the highlights of the annual exhibition taking place in NYC’s Brookfield Place through Nov 16th. At the close of the event, canned goods used in the dozens of sculptures as well as those collected from the visiting public are distributed by City Harvest to nearly 500 soup kitchens and food pantries across the Big Apple.
