Chris Burden’s Metropolis II: Kinetic Sculpture with 100,000 Miniature Cars
In this video with conceptual artist Chris Burden, you learn about the making of his kinetic sculpture, Metropolis II. Currently on display at the Los Angeles Museum of Art, the installation includes 100,000 toy cars on an elaborate 18-system roadway that took some four years to complete. The cars speed through the structure at 240 miles per hour, giving viewers a sampling of “the stress of living in a dynamic, active and bustling 21st century city.”
