Drones Give in to Taking Selfies

Iocose shows a world where technology succumbs to vanity in the ongoing photographic series ‘In Times of Peace.’ The collective of Italian artists explores the possibilities of what drones used during times of war would be doing when they suddenly find themselves in retirement, hence the aptly titled project. Although the hovering drones we know of today are controlled by humans, it won’t be long when artificial intelligence will blur the lines of dependency and autonomy and maybe this emerging technology would also fall prey to the trends of times. According to Filippo Cuttica of IOCOSE, “In this scenario, the drones act like regular people. They are banal as much as the average human being. They could fly pretty much anywhere, and yet they like to take photos of themselves in domestic contexts, replicating existing paradigms for the ‘selfies’ genre.”
