Ethereal Flowers by Tokushige Hideki
Tokushige Hideki creates the most intricate and delicate flower sculptures out of the unlikeliest source. With “Honebana,” or bone-flowers, the Japanese artist was inspired by each culture’s historical connection with flowers and death. Taking this concept, Hideki transforms the imagery literally by using the bones of dead rats as the building blocks of each floral masterpiece. Originally trained as a photographer, he uses a 4×5 inch film camera and claims that the process of capturing just the right shot takes a long time because it’s like “having a dialogue with the bone flower.” The entire process ends with him breaking and burying the flower into the ground further reaffirming the purpose and life-cycle of his art.
