Exploring Commercialization Through Mandalas
Ye Hongxing explores spirituality using a contemporary art approach with her new series Prajñāpāramitā. The Beijing-based artist created mandalas, a spiritual Hindu and Buddhism symbol representing a balanced universe, made up of commercialized, mass-produced children’s items as a representation of modern China. Thousands of stickers, beads, stones, and toys painstakingly arranged to form a larger picture of traditional Chinese motifs, Hongxing aims to show the impact of the disposable and wasteful nature we have all come to evolve into.
