Folded Bodies Create Weird-Looking Characters

Drawing a crude face on someone’s back to create a persona and dressing it up to look like one of us, Ana Hell creates some mildly disturbing characters in the bizarre series Secret Friends. Using someone’s home as the setting for each image, the photographer and artist conceives the strange creatures with the help of close friends and family whose bent over bodies provided the canvas for developing the odd-looking friends. Hell goes on describing the characters as beings who already exist in children’s imaginations: “Secret friends are playmates, reflections, villains, strange and wonderful creatures from another world, the kind that children create when they’re alone.”
