Gray Desserts Are Sweet and Hope-Inspiring

Nowadays, baked goods have become much more than the typical birthday cake and for Depressed Cake Shops, it’s become a launching pad for raising awareness about mental health. Banking on the pop-up bake sale concept, bakers are asked to donate gray-colored desserts to symbolize the dismal cloud that hangs over someone suffering from a mental illness and a pop of color to signify the glimmer of hope underneath all the sadness. The movement was the brainchild of creative director Emma Thomas who held the first bake sale in the UK and has since raised over $46,000 in donations for mental-health based charities worldwide as over 30 bake sales have popped up globally from California to India.
