Learning Among Nature: Green School in Bali

Founded by husband-and-wife team John and Cynthia Hardy, the most eco-friendly school on Earth sprouted in the southeast jungles of Bali, Indonesia. Made to exist in harmony with its surroundings, Green School was created by Ibuku and the expertise of Balinese craftsmen using the island’s sustainable natural resource, bamboo. Constructed of over 70 structures with a bridge over the river serving as a walkway to each campus, the centerpiece called The Heart of School is the world’s largest free standing bamboo building. Situated on 20 acres of land, environmentally-conscious practices can be seen throughout the campus from the solar panels, the bamboo chalkboards, to the 2.5 meter vortex generator installed in the river that produces 8000 watts of electricity day and night.
