Makoko: Nigeria’s Floating Slum

The residents living in the shantytown of Makoko, Nigeria are used to life on a highly polluted and toxic lagoon. The illegally constructed one-square-kilometer settlement supports some 150,000-200,000 people—many of whom are migrant workers. Seeing images of how these people live and work gives you a sense of their plight and hardships.
