Massive Wigs on Korean Women
Yuni Kim Lang’s ‘Comfort Hair‘ puts Korean women in impossibly large and heavy wigs as part of a sculptural art inspired by the ancient Korean practice of the ‘gache.’ Fascinated with cultural importance placed on hair and adornments, the Michigan-based visual artist’s focus revolves around creating wigs and accessories out of rope and synthetic materials. Playing on the cultural belief that a bigger and heavier wig equates to beauty, Lang takes it to the next level by making them so massive as to hinder any movement at all.
