Pencil Sculptures That Will Leave You Speechless

You’ll never look at a pencil the same way again after you see what Jennifer Maestre makes out of them. The Massachusetts-based sculptor may sharpen up to 1000 pencils and take up to 2 months to create sculptures resembling anything from animals to the abstract. Her trade began when she taught herself off loom beading after falling in love with a bag made of seed beads. The painstaking work of creating each model begins with drilling a hole through the pencils, using a heavy duty beading thread, and a technique called peyote stitch. A sculpture can fetch anywhere from $1k to $8k.
