Photographer Goes Couch Surfing and Shares Pictures
Gabriele Galimberti traveled the globe to take part in the worldwide network of CouchSurfing. The hospitality-based nonprofit website connects visitors with willing hosts in any of 230 countries for free accommodations for the possibility of friendships, exchange of cultural information, and good old sharing of stories. The practice started in San Francisco back in 2003 and has evolved into a global phenomenon reaching opposite ends of the world from remote Antarctica to Timbuktu. Galimberti himself has hosted dozens of couchsurfers and in turn, has traveled 5 continents for over a year to document the people he has shared stories with. From a room equivalent of a 5 star hotel in Texas to one less than 110 sq ft shared with 3 generations of a Chinese farmer family, Galimberti shares images of his gracious hosts and the long lost art of sharing in “My Couch is Your Couch.”
