Photographer Opens Portal to the Past
Sergey Larenkov merges the past and the present using iconic photos from World War II curated from museum archives all over Europe. The self-taught Russian photographer was especially interested in Prague, Moscow, Berlin, and Vienna among others and snapped the new background photos himself. Using Photoshop, Larenkov blended images of ravaged landscapes and soldiers from a bygone era with today’s manicured streets and modern buildings seamlessly. The ghosts of the past come alive with each black and white snippet of history that makes for an amazing and thought-provoking collection. When mymodernmet asked Larenkov what he hoped to achieve with this collection, he said “With this project, I want to show the horrors of war to people so that it can help prevent wars again.”
