Pop Culture Icons Recreated in Mosaics
Jason Dussault takes a 4,000 year old medium to create imagery fitting modern society in the series Deconstructive/Constructive. The New York-based Canadian artist uses a hammer and ceramic callipers to break painted porcelain tiles and rearranges them to create incredibly detailed mosaics. Working sans any assistants, each large-scale piece takes anywhere from two to four weeks to construct. Referring to his artwork as ‘nostalgic iconography,’ Dussault’s contemporary pieces were recently added to New York’s Hoerle-Guggenheim Gallery along with other artistic greats like Picasso, Dali, Warhol, and street artist, Retna.
