Pothole Photography Turns Ugly Holes Into Funny Situations
We’ve seen our share of ugly turned into art…unsightly tattoos, weapons, even other people’s trash. But we’ve never seen such a disdainful thing turned into art the way that husband and wife duo Claudia Ficca and Davide Luciano has with Potholes. Luciano came up with the idea when he crashed into a pothole and decided to vent his anger into creativity using the cavernous holes as the main star. The Canadian artists have exposed the ugliness of hole-ridden streets from New York to Los Angeles and with just a few props and models, and through uninterrupted traffic, the whole process just takes 10 minutes. The result is a transformation of what people may refer to as the bane of their commuting existence into humorous, satirical, and tongue-in-cheek collection of photographs. From Santa Claus to Alice in Wonderland, the subjects have been varied but we especially love the baby getting baptized with water from the street runoff.
