Reconnecting With Loved Ones Via a Projector

Feeling stuck between loyalty to her birthplace and to the country she has called home for over half her life, Pimprae Hiranprueck finds a way to reconnect with her family through photography in the series Intersecting the Parallels. Unable to pledge loyalty to one without feeling abandonment for the other, the Thailand born photographer instead superimposes herself in photographs via a projector as a way to connect with loved ones back home. Using social media, she collected pictures of her friends and family in events that she wished she could have been in but circumstance prevents her. According to her, “Projected and captured light is a poor substitute for physical presence. But it is the only way for me to express my confusion of belonging.”
