Sagaki Keita Draws Images Within Images

Just as Monet painted dots to create a larger picture, Sagaki Keita draws pictures to create a larger picture. The Tokyo-based artist draws some amazingly realistic pictures in black and white when viewed from a distance but a closer look reveals his true genius. Within each image are thousands of tiny doodles that form the light and shadow of his illustrations. The small sketches range from the whimsical such as animals or monsters to a person in history such as Hitler or The Mona Lisa. The highly detailed chaos of images within images conveys Sagaki’s explanation of his art. According to him, “the concept of my creation is the relations of borderless ‘whole and part’. As I draw a picture in this concept, I want to express conflict and undulation from relations of ‘whole and part’, cannot be measured in addition and subtraction (the whole in the grand total of the part. and the part by the whole division).”
