Stepping Back in Time in San Francisco

Vintage photographs provides a window to our past and serves as a reminder of how far the world around us has progressed. Fred Lyon, sometimes referred to as ‘San Francisco’s Brassai,” knows the importance of documenting and sharing the San Francisco he’s known throughout the years. In his new book, San Francisco: Portrait of a City 1940-1960, the legendary photographer features the bustling city vibrant with life as everyone from professional ballet dancers to street kids and from corner stores to opera houses are featured in the masterful collection. In honor of his book’s release, the Harvey Milk Photo Center is showcasing 60 of his prints as part of The Fred Lyon Photography Exhibit and will run through January 10, 2015.
