Suspended Lanterns Bring Magic to the Holiday Season

Rockwell Group installs a spectacular display of lights evocative of floating lanterns with the addition of an interactive element. ‘Luminaries‘ consists of fabric lanterns suspended above the room in rows by a steel structure. Each light’s intensity, color and animation are individually controlled through 3 glowing cubes, or ‘wishing stations,’ where one can touch a cube and its color will change, animate or dim until the person releases it and the same behavior will spread to the rest of the lights above. During off times, the installation cycles through 5 preprogrammed shows themed after the holidays: Snowfall,” “Christmas Tree,” “Ribbons,” “Firecracker,” and “Northern Lights.” Visitors can view and interact with Luminaries through January 10, 2016 at Lower Manhattan’s Brookfield Place inside the Winter Garden atrium.
