The water’s surface is what separates the world above and the one below it. Photographer Matty Smith seamlessly marries both worlds, as he frames his images with one part above and one part below water. These of course include any and all creatures that may be lurking underneath the surface.
Underwater photography adds a layer of mysticism as bodies are transformed and water becomes yet another presence and an overwhelmingly major factor in how the final product turns out. With this in mind, Vienna-based photography studio Staudinger + Franke created a new photo series titled “Barrier” featuring portraits of women and men half submerged in water.
Samantha French paints realistic images of people underwater and her striking renditions of water as it ripples, bubbles, and breaks with each body is quite amazing. The New York-based painter gathers inspiration from her Midwestern upbringing where lazy summer days of childhood spent in the lakes of Northern Minnesota forms the foundation of her work.
