The Bewitching Shaman Doctors of Bolivia

Photographer Thomas Rousset and graphic designer Raphael Verona document the unknown world of shaman doctors in the series Waska Tatay. In the Altiplano region of Bolivia, the duo captures the variety of spiritual beliefs that belies the locals and the people who keep the ancient mystical beliefs alive today. Ranging from the gaudy to the ornate, the witch doctors and medicine men don masks and garbs that are as colorful and rich as their South American culture. The staged sessions feature a bridge between modern times and native rituals as soda bottles, Hello Kitty, and a cell phone make their appearances in the photographs.
