The Terrifying and Specialized Mouth of the Leatherback Turtle

What could pass for a Sarlacc pit is actually the mouth of a leatherback turtle. Leatherback turtles are the largest of all living turtles, growing up to 7 feet long and exceeding 2,000 pounds. The turtles have backwards spines in their throats to help them swallow food and to prevent its prey from escaping when caught. Their diet consists almost entirely of jellyfish.
