Ra Paulette Has Spent 25 Years Carving Designs in Caves

Ra Paulette has spent the last 25 years carving man-made caves out of New Mexico’s sandstone desert with only his dog as his companion. With no background in sculpting nor architecture, he uses nothing but hand tools for carving what he fondly calls ‘wilderness shrines’ and does so purely out of sheer passion. Most of the 14 caves he has carved has been commissioned by those seeking for livable art while his latest project will serve as a community retreat and shall be his biggest one yet.
