Tom Hussey Brings Back a Familiar Face

Tom Hussey vividly captures what many of our elders feel in the photographic series “Reflections.” The Texas-based lifestyle photographer’s inspiration for the project came from a conversation he had with an 80 year old WWII veteran. “He commented that he didn’t understand how he could be 80 years old as he felt he was still a young man. He just didn’t feel it was possible he could be 80 years old,” Hussey told the American Society of Media Photographers. Models who are 40 to 50 years younger suit up in retro uniforms much like what their older selves used to don in their younger days with the main difference being that the younger self exudes life and energy. Hussey’s poignant approach of having the old self look into a mirror and still see their younger selves brings into perspective that mind and body does not necessarily age together, as many of our seniors can attest to.
