Vintage Photographs Turned Into Surreal Images

A collection of glass plate photographs taken by World War II photographer Costica Acsinte and digitized by the Costica Acsinte Archive becomes the subject of a fascinating series by Jane Long called Dancing with Costica. The Australia-based photographer infuses the vintage images with some quirky additions from adding animal parts to blending two different images seamlessly taking them from normal to conceptual using Photoshop. A master in image manipulation, Long revitalizes Acsinte’s subjects by giving each a sort of character and persona one could only imagine exists in a magical world. The series will be exhibited as part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale from August 22nd.
