Artist Infuses Modern Mosaic Art into Historical Mosaic Town
Visitors of the Italian city Ravenna, known for its beautiful mosaics from the 5th and 6th centuries AD, will be surprised to know that it’s now also famous for its modern mosaics care of street artist Invader. A year after his first visit to the historical city, the French artist peppered concrete walls with his own take of the city’s culture, architecture, and sights using his signature pixel mosaic art. This second invasion features 15 colorful pieces ranging from a mermaid by the waters to recreations of historical artworks in hopes that the city will preserve his mosaics for future generations to come just like they’ve done for the masterpieces of the Byzantine era.
