Breathtaking Views at the Shibazakura Festival

The blooming of the shibazakura, or pink moss, in May is one of the most celebrated events in Japan. The Shibazakura Festival takes place about three kilometers south of Lake Motosuko in the Fuji Five Lakes area where one can also get a perfect view of the majestic snow-capped Mount Fuji in the backdrop. Around 800,000 stalks of five varieties are arranged to create the sweeping fields of magenta, pink and white blooms. Winding paths offer a way to walk around the delightful carpet of flowers while a convertible bus offers weary feet a tour through the northern district of Mount Fuji.
