Burning Man 2014
Every year, thousands gather for a week long event that turns an expanse of land in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert into a festival celebrating art and self-expression. Cut off from much of the world, kindred spirits bring the annual gathering to life with a themed celebration that creates the perfect mecca for creatives. Occupying a 400 square mile of desert, participants form the temporary Black Rock City where denizens are invited to participate and live and breathe the culture that could never be fully described, only experienced. According to Molly Steenson of Burningman.com, “You’re here to celebrate. On Saturday night, we’ll burn the Man. As the procession starts, the circle forms, and the man ignites, you experience something personal, something new to yourself, something you’ve never felt before. It’s an epiphany, it’s primal, it’s newborn. And it’s completely individual.” Large art installations, music, outrageous get-ups, anonymity, dust storms, and a time to be free creates the environment that continues to lure those who want to escape life.
