Chris Maynard’s Feather Artistry

Inspired by what makes birds unique, Chris Maynard creates shadowboxes filled with intricate and detailed cut outs of birds from their source of flight. Procured from zoos and aviaries, Maynard showcases feathers from birds all over the world. Armed with eye surgery scissors, forceps, and a magnifying glass, the creation process personifies the delicateness and gracefulness of birds in the project Feather Designs. The vivid colors and patterns of the feathers are so varied that he is able to create distinguishable scenes from one feather such as the brown ducks on the top half of the feather with the bottom half displaying their reflections on the blue water.
