Composite Images Reveal What Overpopulation Would Look Like

With a simple adjustment here and there, Pelle Cass creates a thought-provoking series which could be considered a prediction of things to come as the population continues to expand by the second. The Boston-based photographer took hundreds of snapshots set on a high-traffic public spot throughout the day and layered them on top of each other to create the overpopulated scenes in ‘Selected People.’ The resulting composite images makes personal space and ‘room to breathe’ as things of the past. As to what Cass’ tried to achieve with the project: “This work both orders the world and exaggerates its chaos…My subject is the strangeness of time, the exact way people look, and a surprising world that is visible only with a camera.”
