Sometimes people with the best intentions can come across as insensitive especially when it comes to the subject of hardship so Emily McDowell came up with a solution for those times when you just can’t figure out what to say. Mixing a small bit of humor with a large dose of reality, the L.A.-based designer and illustrator created Empathy Cards – a line of greeting cards designed specifically for those wanting to send sympathy to a loved one without sounding like a jerk while doing so. Recovering from cancer herself and having dealt with receiving horribly generic greeting cards, McDowell’s new series genuinely speaks from the heart in a good-humored way.
